JAMES STREET

Last week I was at the James St Markets, with my camera of course, and found this gentleman enjoying his coffee. He may not look it, but I think he owns the whole place.

This lovely little lady was probably the most pleasant, compliant and co-operative person I have photographed for a long time. She is a student of her mother, who is a dance teacher, so her poise and balance and ability to take instruction made it a very pleasant portrait session for me and my wife.

I have just returned from a trip out toward western Queensland and came back with a number of really nice portraits, mainly of kids. The land out there is really flat and to many people , uninteresting, but to me, it is pure heaven. No tall buildings, no pollution and REALLY friendly people who are not afraid to get out of bed at 5:am for a portrait session. There were too many sessions to include them all here, but I am returning next week some time to deliver their portraits and photograph some more families.

PORTRAIT SESSION AT RIPLEY

I was asked to travel to Ripley, a small rural area out from Ipswich, to photograph a family of two parents and their baby. We had a great start, with the parents’ portraits and some beautiful images of the baby playing around the old cow shed. I happened to look down the road in time to see a man on a horse driving some cattle our way. I could see that he would be moving out of the shadow of the hill and into beautiful late afternoon sunlight, so I excused myself from the portrait session for “just a second” to grab a shot for myself. It was then that the family laughingly informed me that it was granddad! It gave me the perfect opportunity to add him into the session and create a three generation portrait.
